Paying out users for virtual currency

Postby MeltdownZA » January 16th, 2013, 12:52 pm

If we have virtual currency in our game, that players can accumulate, is there any way we can pay users back in real cash for this virtual currency?

When you use PayVault, no money passes through our systems, it's all between you, the payment provider(s) you choose, and your users. If you want to give money back to your users, then they have to sign up for some service that allows them to recieve money, for example PayPal, but there are no systems in Player.IO to manage that.

But having payouts in a game is very difficult for legal reasons. Is your game a lottery? A skill game? Or gambling of some sort? All of these activites are heavily regulated in most countries, and even if it's legal in the country you run your business from, some users might reside in countries where it's still illegal for them to participate anyway. On top of that, there are various laws around money laundering, and you probably have to prove to various authorities that it's not possible to do that through your game.

Technically it's doable with Player.IO, for each payout to a user you'll have to look up that user's payout channel somewhere, give him the money through that, and then user the PayVault Admin Panel to debit his balance in PayVault. But it's manual work, unless you build your own program that can do these things.

But from a legal point of view it's very tricky. You really need to research what laws apply to you in your country before going down that route.
