String Index Encoding.....

What encoding is used on an index that is a string, is it UTF-8? Just trying to figure out how much I can cram into this index.

Yes, it's UTF-8.

But, what are you trying to do? Maybe there's a better way...

Just some long strings from an IP lookup provider, country, region and city names. Just wanted to make sure that each character was only going to use 1 bit vs. 2 as some of the names are can be >25 letters. They did confirm with me that the letters are only A-Z, no funny characters.
