Music & Sound effects - where to get them?

Postby cog » January 16th, 2013, 2:07 pm

Hi,

For those who don't have a dedicated musician / sound guy, where do you get musics/sounds?
Do you know of a free/paid sound library?
Do you commission someone? Or post the job somewhere?
Do it yourself?

Anyone is welcome to contribute.

There are various ressources availables.

For music, there is Incompetech, which contains a lot of great quality loops : http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/ . It's free, you only need to give credits to Kevin Macleod.

Another awesome source for music is Newgrounds. Their audio portal have thousand and thousand of nice songs. It's just a bit hard to browse and find the proper one, but there is a lot of choice. And usually, if you find a song you like, you can simply contact the author asking him for right, that he'll be credited. Authors are usually very happy that you chose their song.

sounddogs.com has a lot of sounds, their website is a bit tricky to use though I find. I buy a lot of sounds from audiojungle.net too. Nice website and cheap.

I have been quite happy with http://www.royaltyfreemusic.com for music. It cost money, but a fraction of what you would pay an artist / in licences over a game lifetime.

Hmph! You must have struck a windfall with your Everybody Edits and gotten rich!
Truth is, most of us casual developers cannot afford paying for soundClips.

I personally rip the SFX off games that I have played like command and conquer. They are not copywrighted. Only the music is!
I think we can get free music from NG AudioPortal.
