Best Practices & Game Theory

Postby tomoprime » February 9th, 2011, 12:36 am

Hi All

I thought it be good to start a section covering the Do's and Don'ts of using your Game with PlayerIO. I would think converting a single player game to use multiplayer vs. starting a new game to utilize multiplayer from the ground up has certain advantages and limitations. As for a developer being an early multiplayer adopter, neither method is going to be easy.

For example in a Realtime game that requires shooting projectiles at moving targets the server may communicate every event that a player initiates to all the other players in the room. The server however should or may not track / broadcast say every bullet being fired over the course of several frames... The server may also handle non player (NPC) events quite differently.

This section could point out some tips and tricks. Then after a sticky the notes could be gathered into the general documentation area of PlayerIO. Probably best to start a Wiki. Let members contribute what worked best for them.

Hey Tom,

Here's a blog post with links to stuff that covers a ton of this sort of thing: http://playerio.com/blog/2011/01/28/how ... ng-issues/
