Yesterday's Outage

Postby UnknownGuardian » December 3rd, 2011, 6:11 pm

Yesterdays Outage (I was on for at least 15 min of it, not sure how long it ranged for) caused errors for my clients until today (12 hours later) saying that "The room cannot have more than 45 players in it". I checked on my admin panel today and there were no rooms listed. So for 12 hours no clients could connect and I lost a lot of traffic.

Why is playerio so unstable now? (And why does your site go down as well if your servers go down). Shouldn't you be hosting the 2 on separate servers? If you had I could have set up a local server to satisfy some users real quick.

Also why did this error occur?

Thanks

I had same problem too.
I dunno why some user complain they can connect to playeio but was unable to join room while another user has no problem.
Any idea??

Is there still outages happening? No one can connect to my game currently and I noticed the site was down earlier.

Hope everything is ok! Let us know!

Just happened again about an hour ago. :( But my game is up.

Its probably time for me to stop recommending playerio because they are down so much. Yes you have growth but you should have been expecting this growth. I've never seen or heard other services like this go down so often. :(

Experiencing outage till now, PlayerIO has been really unstable latelly.

I know that everything may experiece problems now and then, but it would be really comforting to hear a word from the development team, on whether this problem will be fixed soon or not.

Same problem here.
It's not possible to create new rooms in my game at the moment.
Error message:
There is no server in any of the selected server clusters [Player.IO Main Cluster] that are eligible to start a new room in (they're all at full capacity or there are no servers in any of the clusters). Either change the selected clusters for your game in the admin panel, try again later or start some more servers for one of your clusters.

hope it will be fixed soon!

I've got the Pro-Plan so I've talked to one of the player.io team members directly.
That was about a month ago, when BigDB wasn't working.
He told me that player.io has grown over 100% that time.
I guess it's the same thing now...

Hello,

Our hosting provider has been experiencing issues with their networking hardware today and yesterday, which caused problems on our internal network. Player.IO is a distributed service running on many, many physical servers, and since our multiplayer service is the most distributed in nature of our services, it was the most affected by these problems.

The issues are fixed now by our hosting provider.

Needless to say we're deeply sorry for these troubles, and we're investigating ways of adding redundancy to our setup so we can avoid this sort of failure in the future.

Best,
Oliver

It's great to hear that PlayerIO is growing so much! I love these services and am building on it with a long-term plan in mind. :)

But, it would be nice to get a heads-up if there is a known issue. Not even before it happens (because you don't always know ahead of time), but even when it first happens. A quick, "Oy! You might be getting outages. We're on it!" here in the forums would resolve a lot of worries. ;)

Cheers,

Or twitter if the forums go down with the multiplayer, but as I mentioned earlier it would be great if it was possible to separate the 2, even if it was just the forums hosted on a separate server so announcements and other things could happen when it goes down next.
